Each of us, no matter how young or young-at-heart, has a unique viewpoint to share with the world, and music is an ideal universal language in which to do just that. Growing through music, students of all ages not only learn how to work with an instrument, but also how to diagnose and approach difficult problems, exercise critical thinking, and discover the joys and trials of working with others to reach a common goal.
Pursuing a new art should be both enjoyable and challenging, and in lessons, I aim to create an environment in which students feel comfortable exploring both technical processes and an awareness of sound. Music reading, ear training, listening, an appreciation of music history, and exposure to a variety of musical styles and cultures are all important facets of my teaching, as I guide students through the process of becoming well-rounded musicians and lifelong music lovers.
I teach both violin and viola. If you're interested in exploring another instrument (piano, guitar, winds, etc.), I will do my best to point you in the right direction!
I currently maintain lesson studios in the Near West Side/Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, as well as the suburban communities of Western Springs, Naperville, and Geneva.
Lessons range from 25-60 minutes per week, depending on age, interest, and learning needs.
I love to work with students of all ages, from 5 to 95 and beyond. If you have any questions or inquiries regarding students younger than 5, or regarding those with special learning requirements, please feel free to reach out.

"We are so blessed to have Katie as our daughter's teacher and mentor. She is really enjoying her lessons and blooming under Katie's care...[Katie] has given our daughter not only additional skills, but more confidence, which is a huge gift!"

"I've had Ms. Katie as a teacher for the past six years. Her patience has helped me learn and grow as a viola player, [and] she has encouraged me to challenge myself and explore different opportunities to play in groups. She is a great teacher and I would recommend her to any kid who wants to learn how to play."
- Sophia A.
"My daughter always looks forward to going to lessons. From the very first day, Katie has always been patient, kind and personable. For six years and counting, my daughter has maintained her interest in playing viola - I would highly recommend Katie for any student at any level."
- Sharon A.
"Katie is amazing! She is such a great teacher - whether an assignment she gave me or something for my school orchestra, she helps me improve so much. I really think that if someone wanted to learn violin, they should try a lesson with her...I am in school orchestra and also take private lessons, and there is a distinct difference between the kids that take private lessons and the ones that don't - I definitely recommend her!"
